Abstract

As climate change reaches its worst, the people of Harlem are starting to feel its effects. This past summer, Harlem endured a heatwave the likes of which we haven’t felt before. In fact, temperatures grew so hot that East Harlem endured a power outage due to an increase in the collective excess use of air conditioning. However, research shows that this conflict was only a problem in predominantly black and brown communities, and I conduct the research to find out why.
